Commercial Operations & Maintenance Technician, Vista Solar

The O&M Technician will be responsible for, but not limited to performing corrective maintenance, onsite service calls, preventative maintenance/annual check-ups, equipment RMA, as well as commissioning of new systems. The O&M Technician will report directly to the Asset Performance Manager, and work together with the department to ensure optimal performance of Vista Solar’s individual PV plants and our portfolio as a whole. In short, you will help make sure that our solar systems are living up to their expectations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Service Calls – AC/DC fuses, breakers, inverter, optimizers, micro inverter, generation meters and panel replacements
  • Corrective Maintenance – including, but not limited to: string wiring, ground fault detections, general PV troubleshooting and identifying potential losses from installation practices
  • Knowledge of thermal imaging, multi meters, and other tools in order to identify production issues
  • PV commissioning – completed monitoring equipment planning & installation, IV curve for all inverters, shade analysis for all arrays and mounting planes, along with commissioning check list items
  • Communications – Installing communication equipment, including: Cat5 wiring, RJ45 connection, data loggers, switches, RS485 wiring and modems
  • Warranty Maintenance – all necessary practices in order to maintain manufacturer’s warranty as well as processing and replacing faulty equipment through RMAs
  • Annual Check-ups – Yearly site visits including check lists and system inspections
  • Customer communication and check in for daily site visits
  • Ability to maintain notations on tickets with our internal CRM for each site visit
  • Maintain inventory organization, tools, equipment and scheduled vehicle maintenance

Skills Required: 


  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1+ years of Commercial Solar experience
  • 1+ years of Solar Operations & Maintenance experience 
  • AC/DC electrical experience
  • Energy/ DECK monitoring experience
  • Experience using Solmetric Suneye shade analysis tool
  • Experience using Sometric PV analyzer – IV curve tracer
  • Experience with Multi Meter and power tools
  • Must be able to carry, push and stack 50+lbs
  • Must be able to climb ladders and walk on roofs while adhering to all safety requirements
  • Strong quantitative, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize projects and competing demands
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills
  • Must work well independently, as well within a team environment
  • Detail oriented with exceptional organization skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications
  • Valid state driver's license, clean DMV driving record, and ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen

Preferred Qualifications

  • NABCEP Certified
  • Certified Electrician
  • Experience with computer network communication combined with PV will be highly considered

Position Location: Santa Clara, CA 

Salary: $25 - 30/hr
